Since shipping containers are not the "norm" we wanted to answer as many questions as possible to help shed some light on our process and give insight into recycling these distinct units.
Please reach out to us at ReconRecycles@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
We specialize in a wide variety of commercial, residential, institutional, and industrial building projects including but not limited to Tiny Homes, (ADU) Accessory Dwelling Units, Offices, Retail Spaces, Bars, Restaurants, She/He Sheds, Pool Houses, Podcast Studio, and even Garages!
We start with a consultation to understand your vision and goals for the project. Then we are able to create a detailed plan and layout so that we are able to have a timeline for construction.
Shipping containers are almost always constructed from steel, which is an alloy of iron, and are therefore susceptible to rust. Marine grade Corten steel is used with anti-corrosive properties, but rust will eventually, inevitably occur. Proper care and maintenance will help our units outlive any shed or traditional pole building!
Our units are very low maintenance. For our painted units, by working with a DTM (direct-to-metal) paint, the depth in the layers will be sure to last many years. All of our windows and doors are completely welded in to ensure a tight, waterproof seal. The roof of the shipping container is welded solid from the factory, with a natural upward bow to shed water. The floors of the containers are made with 1"+ thick marine grade/bamboo flooring. Shipping containers were built to make an abundance of transatlantic trips!
We have the ability to ship our creations all over the world. Trucking and shipping costs can add up fairly quickly depending on your location. Remember, shipping containers are meant to be moved!
Typically when we are custom building projects with extensive cutting & welding, we like to use one-trip containers with very little dents/dings and little to no "body work" needed. One-trip containers are made overseas and make one initial trip before the unit makes its way to us.
Here at Recon, we build every single one of our units custom to our client's specifications. With that being said, we do not always have multiple units at our facility for clients to view. We have learned with time that everyone has different requests and needs that might not match the ideas of the next client - so we build everything to order. We try to always have at least one finished unit on hand, but the model on hand may vary from time to time.
Nope! Recon Recycled Container Systems is an owner-operated business and plans to stay that way forever! We strive to build quality units over quantity, every single shipping container that comes and goes through our facility is thoroughly inspected by the owner himself.

With how versatile shipping containers are, there are a wide variety of foundation options you can use. Containers can realistically be set anywhere, there are just a few things you have to consider when deciding which foundation will best suit your application:
How permanent will this unit be? Does your local municipality require something specific? What is your ground like?
Most of the time we recommend concrete footers, stone base and sometimes even a concrete crawl space in the colder climates. Concrete footers with a steel plate inlay or a concrete crawlspace with steel plates would be the most permanent option.
