Since shipping containers are a unique building material, we’ve answered some of the most common questions to explain our process and highlight the benefits of recycling them into high-quality structures. Still have questions? Email us at ReconRecycles@gmail.com — we’re happy to help!
Yes! At Recon Recycled Container Systems, we specialize in fully custom shipping container builds for a wide variety of commercial, residential, institutional, and industrial projects. We create everything from tiny homes, ADU (Accessory Dwelling Units), shipping container offices, retail spaces, bars, restaurants, she/he sheds, pool houses, podcast studios, and even garages. If you can imagine it, we can build it.
We start with a friendly consultation to understand your vision, goals, and specific needs for the project. From there, we develop a detailed plan and layout, providing a clear timeline for design and construction of your custom shipping container build.
Our units are designed for durability and low maintenance. We use high-quality direct-to-metal (DTM) paint for long-lasting protection, and all windows and door frames are fully welded to ensure a secure, waterproof seal. The original container roof features a factory-welded construction with a natural upward bow to promote water runoff. Floors are built with a thick marine-grade or bamboo hardwood for added strength. These containers were originally engineered to endure countless transatlantic journeys — built to last in even the toughest conditions.
We can ship our custom shipping container builds worldwide. Trucking and shipping costs can add up quickly depending on your location — especially for longer distances. Remember, shipping containers are designed to be moved, making them highly portable for both local and international delivery.
No. For custom builds involving extensive cutting and welding, we prefer to use high-quality one-trip shipping containers. These containers have made only one overseas journey and arrive with minimal dents, dings, or bodywork needed. One-trip containers provide a stronger starting point for durable, long-lasting custom shipping container builds and structures. We focus on quality over quantity at Recon Recycled Container Systems.
Every unit at Recon is custom-built to meet your specific needs, so we don’t always have multiple finished models on hand. Over time, we’ve found that no two clients have the exact same vision. That said, we do our best to keep at least one finished custom shipping container or reference unit available on-site. Availability can vary depending on current projects — feel free to contact us to see what’s currently available for viewing.
Not at all. Recon Recycled Container Systems is a proud owner-operated business. We believe in quality over quantity, and that starts with hands-on care. Every shipping container that enters or leaves our facility is thoroughly inspected to ensure it meets the highest standards of craftsmanship and durability for your custom shipping container build.

Shipping containers are incredibly versatile, which allows for a range of foundation options depending on your site, climate, and how permanent you want the installation. Key factors include soil and ground conditions, local municipality requirements, and whether the setup is temporary or long-term.
In most cases, we recommend concrete footers, a 3/4” clean stone base, or — especially in colder climates — a concrete crawl space. For the most permanent and stable setups, concrete footers or a full crawl space are ideal. We can help guide you based on your specific location and needs for any custom shipping container build.
